Beef brisket, sausage and baby back ribs is what I am looking to try.
I like Hard-eight in Dallas area, I am sure Houston has better pit

That spot is pretty good but it's in the hood. Some folks too skeerd to visit the dirty mickle. Ribs are good though.

Boogies off Fondren and west airport gots good ribs and a nice loose cut brisket. He is from Chicago so says its that style but it's BBQ man only real diff is he has rib tips never saw that much till recently.

Smoked pork sausage at big 6 on highway six is nice. He is outdoors in a parking lot but great homemade sausage. Use it in gumbo and shit like that.

Gatlins is just ok for me not really worth the drive.

Hickory hollow is good all around but I'm not in love with the BBQ sauce the got. Too thin and tomato like. Ribs good and brisket good. Also nice atmosphere, near other shit you might do out here.

Pizzitola's pretty close to hickory hollow. Great brisket here sauce ok. Ribs pretty good all around pretty good spot but think its over priced for the hipsters. I gotta think on some other spots I've tried.

Very moist brisket with perfect pink smoke ring .
Ribs were falling of the bone a lil over done but still good .
Sausage was very good also .
I got some funny looks while I was there but no one was rude to me , a pretty long line but that's cause it's good .
The portions were very generous I got the three meat plate Triple J special 13.50 . you could probably feed two people with it I shared mine with some friends they were surprised how good it was and how much there was on one plate . Smoked Boudain was good also... bought some for a buddy .

Yes it's in the hood so behave your self and be friendly and you shouldn't have a problem .
For me....Pizzitola's
