AMPS in S.A. in the 80's

OK..I'm really going to date myself with this thread but....back in about 1981..82...I-10 was lined with various AMP's. There must've been 15 or 20 of them lined up just East of a rest stop. They're all gone now, but back then I believe there presence was a result of the nearby military bases. It was quite a selection. My very first time was at one in particular that had a laminated card they handed to you upon arrival. The "Something Different" menu item was a quick fluttering of fingers, a quick flip followed by a BBBJCiM...all for forty dollars! I would imagine that once you take inflation and cost of living (or should that be giving?) into account the rates about what it is today.

Does anyone else remember those AMPs?
