If, because of this situation, Facebook is made to feel some pain, then they'll be less likely to pull a stunt like this in the future. You would be doing a public service if Facebook is made to suffer a bit here.
I suspect they want this to go away, quickly. Now, I'm not asking you to be a hero. If they offer you money that makes you happy, by all means take.it. But, please be aware that you DO have them over a barrel. It would be nice if you made them squirm a bit.
