Anyone into Nawa Shibari?

Definition

Shibari (literally meaning bondage) is a Japanese style of sexual bondage or BDSM. Shibari involves tying up the bottom (or uke) in intricate patterns, usually with several pieces of thin rope. Shibari differs from Western bondage in that, instead of just immobilizing or restraining the bottom, the bottom gains pleasure from being under pressure and strain of the ropes, squeezing the breasts or genitals. The aesthetics of the bound person's position are also important: in particular, Japanese bondage is notorious for its use of asymmetric positions to heighten the psychological impact of bondage.

Although some of the techniques of Japanese sexual bondage originated with the military restraint technique of Hojojutsu, sexual bondage techniques are far gentler, and great care is taken to avoid injury. According to several sources, bondage as a sexual activity first came to notice in Japan in the late Edo period, perhaps as a result of Western influences. In the 1960s, a tradition of bondage as a form of performance art developed in Japan. --http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nawa_shibari, Apr 2004

I had a gf that loved to play this way. She would stay tied (and orgasming) for hours at a time. If you love it, it is absolutely hot.

Good rope and patience are key.
Shibari is at the opposite end of the rope spectrum from just plain bondage for fun/sex. A well-done tie in Shibari can take an hour to create, and by then your bottom is sometimes nearing their capacity to take the strain of the tie, so you have to get them out of it soon (which can also take a while...).

It's great for visual effects, especially if you are wanting to do photography. Unfortunately because it is so time consuming its not as fun as you would think.

For just plain bondage sex, get a couple of well-placed ropes tied on your sub in a few minutes and then have at it!

Oh, and if you are interested, there is a rope bondage group that mixes shibari with regular tying concepts located here in Dallas. They meet once a month at the local dungeon.

Aside from the bondage of the sub: Isn't there also a decorative aspect to Shibari—I mean complex knots . . .almost Makreme?
I have been interested, and learning for the past 3 years. There are groups that meet here in Houston, too. I have modeled all kinds of gorgeous rope work on me. Well placed knots can do wonders. *wicked grin
