A&M fires Mike Sherman

Don't really agree with all the sports talk people about this being a great job to steel Kevin Sumlin for.

Seriously, would you want to be the guy who takes A&M to the SEC, and gets his ass handed to him for the next few years? That is not going to be the as great a job as is the next guy. I think that the Aggie fans will give the new coach a two or three years before they start complaining and hounding him.

The coach that follows that one will have the opportunity maybe take the program forward into a winning season. Just don't see that as good a job as the talking heads on the radio seem to believe. Yeah TAMU looks good on the resume, but not with all losing seasons. Good luck finding as good a job after that.

I seriously hope Sumlin stays at Houston for a couple of more years. If he has done his job recruiting, and developing talent he could stay near the top of the heap for a few more years with all the hard work he has already put in. Would hate to see him leave to go to A&M (or anyplace else like AZ State, etc.). He might find himself looking up in the BCS standings at his successor for the next few years.

JMHO, I could be wrong....................
It's all about the money. UH will have to open the check book to keep him. Because you know A&M will open the check book to get him.

yep.......show me the money
I heard Arizona State was offering him 2.3 million bones to coach them. Wow, what is he making at UH? I would guess about 500K? The aggies will probbaly have to pay him more than that! I think the Arizona State offer forced that Aggies to pull the trigger on Sherm. I wish the NCAA would force coaches to stay thru bowl games each year or not allow any offers to be made to coaches until after bowl games were completed. It is very distracting and disheartening to players at schools that are getting the coach pilfered by another university.

Good Point. I would like to see that as well.

Big time college football has not been about the players in years, as others have said its all about the money.

This might be the time for a wholesale cleansing of the system.

Getting tired of hearing Mack Brown on just about every other commercial. If he would spend time coaching and not trying to line his pockets at ever opportunity he might be able to put together a decent football team.

Kirby Smart might be a better fit. Played in SEC and has coached under Sabin for years.
Might make a difference right away.

Sumlin was an asst. at A&M prior to coming to UH. So, they have a history with him and knows him. They have the best shot at getting him, unless UH makes him an offer he can't refuse.
A&M will have to make a significant offer to enter the big leagues of the SEC. I suspect they will continue to be a very mediocre program.

Check out these compensation packages ... what fun they would be

All good comments. Taking that A & M job would be a mistake IMHO. Never had an AA coach there and that campus is known for bigotry toward students. U Of H needs better facilities...PERIOD!!

Arizona State - Naaahh
UCLA - Better for Sumlin

If it came down to money, none of the other schools could match A & M as far as that goes.
