What happened to all the I-70 porn stores?

I haven't driven down this way in years so I was (literally) excited to be on the road from STL to KC, as I remember well all the billboards for what seemed like dozens of adult stores along I-70.

Part of my plan was to stop at a couple on my way here yesterday..... but I only saw ONE SIGN. And when I exited there was construction blocking the road so I couldn't find it!
Bummer!

So.... are the stores gone or just the signs? Did the shops themselves, like many brick-and-mortar businesses, close down due to internet competition?

I'll be driving back to Chicago on Saturday and would love to stop off for some adult-toy shopping if someone can tell me where these fun places are!

TIA

I think there was legislation about the billboards a few years ago. From what I remember, no new ones for that kind of biz were allowed, but existing ones were grandfathered in. Don't quote me on the details. I can think of at least 3 places off the top of my head between here and Columbia, MO alone. For that kind of shopping, I'd recommend just going to a Cirilla's while you're here in town. From my very limited experience, their prices are same or better than highway stores. They have several locations.

Thank you all! I normally purchase my supplies online, but I also enjoy browsing in an actual store too!

I visited Cirilla's while in KC and Lion's Den on my drive home. I remembered Lion's Den from way way back when I used to visit MO and while I wasn't sure if it was the same store, it definitely fit the bill! ;-)
