a forgotten court case involved a former slave suing a slave bounty hunter.
this bounty hunter kidnapped her and took her back to the south and sold her off to another slave owner.
this woman got her freedom when her french owner abandoned his wife and left for france. his wife gave this woman her freedom. His children on the other hand wasn't too happy about this and they were really nasty by hiring a bounty hunter. it was a strange transaction. they hired him to find her and sell her back to slavery and he can pocket the proceeds of sale.
as for the court case, she originally sued for $20,000 compensation. the court ruled in her favor but only awarded $2,000. good for her.
this appears to be the only known example of reparations.
2000 wasn't much. it appears that she made good of use of this money.
