Just seconds from death and dismemberment, she created her opportunity by grabbing something to defend herself with - a rake. When the psycho idiot perp set his gun down to try to get the rake (and strangle her with both hands), she grabbed his gun and shot while fleeing. In the process she rid us all of this waste-of-skin - with a single, no-look, over-the-shoulder shot.
