3 books that I've read myself that may be of interest:

1. Confessions Of A Part-Time Call Girl by Barbara Ignoto. Published 1986. Purports to be a factual account of a secretary by day, call girl by night. Kind of reads like Penthouse Forum letters so I think it may be more for lurid reading than a true-life case study.

2. All The Girls by Martin O'Brien. Published 1982. This is a man's account of his experiences with different escorts all over the world. Very interesting if you are interested in other cultures and the differences in the profession in foreign lands.

3. Brothel by Alexa Albert. Published 2001. A female college student spends time at the Mustang Ranch in Nevada and immerses herself in the day-to-day life of the working girls there. This book covers not so much the sexual acts but the emotional angles of being a working girl.
I've been running down all the call girl, courtesan, whore, prostitute, etc movies on Netflix. There are more than I ever imagined. Good way to spend a cold, snowy day.

(Well, one good way, I know another way I'd rather be spending it)
Smoking Monkey's Avatar
Kind of a stupid, but interesting movie is "Whore" by Ken Russell and staring Theresa Russell. Not accurate, but fairly sleazy and by a highly regarded director.
KCQuestor's Avatar
I don't know if Netflix has it, but I remember a series of movies from the 80s about an schoolgirl who is a streetwalker by night, and who gets involved with the police to stop a serial killer.

Angel
Avenging Angel
Angel III: The Final Chapter

I only remember the first one, but it was kind of titillating to think that a girl my age could be secretly a hooker while going to school.
The Sixth Beatle's Avatar
My favorite when it comes to hooker movies. It's available on Netflix and stars Molly Parker, Peter Sarsgaard and Carla Gugino. Directed by Wayne Wang, the description from IMDB (http://www.imdb.com) follows:
A couple checks into a suite in Las Vegas. In flashbacks we see that he's a computer whiz on the verge of becoming a dot.com millionaire, she's a lap dancer at a club. He's depressed, withdrawing from work, missing meetings with investors. He wants a connection, so he offers her $10,000 to spend three nights with him in Vegas, and she accepts with conditions: four hours per night of erotic play, and no penetration. During the days in Vegas, they get to know each other, have fun, meet a friend of hers; at night, at least after the first night, things seem to get complicated. Is mutual attraction stirring? Will they play by their rules? Can it be about more than money? Written by <jhailey@hotmail.com>
A fairly realistic portrayal. Molly Parker is hot!
