What's in a name?

I have always wondered what the problem is with the public use of the term “Whore" considering its dictionary description is 100% applicable to its use in society while the dictionary term for “Provider” does Not at all define its use within the hobby.
A mechanic provides automobile service but he is a mechanic by definition. Not a provider. The same would apply to everyone else who provides a service for a living.
I can only assume it's no different than a trash collector trying to sugarcoat his Greatly Needed and Honest profession by calling himself a sanitation worker yet everyone else still perceives him as a trash collector. Why? Because it more accurately describes what he does. A sanitation worker could be anyone from hazardous waste cleanup to a janitor who cleans toilets.

Interesting how a member of any one particular race can be referred to by a name considered derogatory when used by a member of a different race. However it is not considered offensive when used by a member of the same race. The same applies to the term whore.
I have long time dear friends who are "providers" and have often heard them refer to themselves and one another warmly as whores but NEVER as providers. They take absolutely no offense to the term in a nonconfrontational one-on-one scenario yet will pull out a hanging rope if the term is used by a non-provider.

Personally I have no interest in "Call girls" because I don't need anyone to call me or make calls for me.
I have no use for escorts because I do not need anyone to accompany me anywhere.
I already have a great many providers in my life ranging from my dentist to my poop scoop guy.

The number one reason I am on this site is because every now and then when the itch needs a good scratching I require the services of a warm, talented, beautiful and intelligent W**** as defined by the English dictionary.

People are just too sensitive Codybeast. I have never had an issue wih being called a john or trick. People just like to make themselves feel better about what they do in the hobby world...

I've never had a problem with the word hooker. The word whore doesn't bother me either, I think some people are offended by it simply because it is generally said with malicious intent.

The word provider always reminds me of those Asian women that were kept in camps to service the military(in WW2 I believe but I could be wrong).

It can also be how people perceive things..Cody you stated you didnt need anyone to "ESCORT" you anywhere...to some they are looking to be "ESCORTED" to a fantasy..to others the Gal is PROVIDING a FANTASY.....Not everyone has the same perceptions of things..And if the majority of people find the term "WHore" derogatory whats the big deal of using a term that is less inflamatory..Or is it just your wish to fan flames ..Your definitions dont apply to everyone here...If they Fit you so be it..but just becase Mr WEBSTER defines it as one thing..doesnt mean it fits EVERYONE...Some see the Glass half full some see it as Half empty...

Nor do I see how it might be perceived as fanning flames on any level by any provider. Trust me your response won't get you a discount on your next session.

At no place in the thread did I state I would like to call providers whores or whores providers. Nor have I ever called anyone anywhere a whore whether on or off the board. Search my posts and you will find this to be true. In fact I usually address the ladies here with the term "Beautiful".
This thread is about the obvious question of WHY the term is so offensive Publicly when it is applicable by definition rather than IF it is offensive. As I stated in my original post (which you ignored) I have a few provider friends of many years who lovingly refer to one another as whores when we are all just kicking back. Never have I heard them use the term provider.
Considering the fact that the dictionary's definition of whore is one who provides P4P I would most certainly hope that it applies to everyone here otherwise why the hell are we here?
The absolute worst that has been said of me by any provider publicly on the boards or privately BCD is that I am a perfect gentleman and 100% considerate in my responses to the women here. Your kiss ass response makes it very clear that you are indeed the one attempting to fan some flames by removing the intellectual core of this thread thus reducing it to an emotional reactor.
Stop defending and start contributing. There is no one being attacked here.
I don't care for any of the labels. To me they are all ladies until they prove to me otherwise. Then I simply don't see them.
As with any word, the meaning lies with the people using the words, not with the word itself. Intonation, context and intent during delivery form the basis of how we respond to any given word.

I don't take offense to use of the word as long as it's meant in a light-hearted manner, or even without any emotional attachment to it at all. When it's used to degrade or insult, it usually evokes the appropriate response from me, and many other women. Call it human nature.

I'm routinely called a man whore by a certain young lady... doesn't bother me at all, of course, but again, I accept it in the nature it is intended.

Cody you made the statement "the dictionary term for “Provider” does Not at all define its use within the hobby. " I just pointed out that it may not define it in your situation.but it does do so to others...

You also stated "I have no use for escorts because I do not need anyone to accompany me anywhere" I just said others perceive them as ESCORTING them to a Fantasy..Just because the Websters Defintion may or may not apply to you ..It does apply to others.. I never once said you werenot anything but a gentlemen. I cant made a call on that for i have never met you..And for that I will give you the benefit of the doubt until proven wrong..I would hope you are nothing but a gentleman here..lord knows this place can use a few more..I was just pointing out that you were trying to put everyone in the mold you deemed appropiate..The problem is not everyone here can fit in the same mold...You have your reasons for being here..and have every right to be so..But your reasons and expecttations doesnt necesarily reflect everyone elses..There are a lot of "WORDS" in websters that by definition that are inflammatory..but if used most of society will indeed find them inflammatory..Just because websters doesnt say it isnt inflammatory doesnt mean it isnt in the eyes of society...My personal opinon is some words just need to be avoided and not used because even if used with the Noblest of intentions most people will find it offensive...."WHORE" being one of these words.

EXACTLY.......well said..
You know it's interesting and I've thought about it before.

I find absolutely no offense in the word. I have even been called it in a negative way. It doesn't bother me. I think I am deeply at peace with who I am and what I do. (Not to say anyone who finds it offensive isn't.) I just had a long discussion with my family about it when I came out to them. When we got down to it, they were mostly struggling with stigmas.

HOWEVER, for some reason I find the "c" word extremely offensive and ugly. That word really gets to me. I think a lot of ladies would agree with how ugly it is to be called the "c" word. Not sure why that is... curious though.

There's a word I used in Chicago. There it was anything from heartfelt affectionate friendship to a death threat. Here I don't use it at all.

Prostitution's still stigmatized a lot of places, definitely in Texas, hey? As long as that's the case people might be sensitive about it. Prejudice seems to be eroding, anyway; associated professions, e.g. actress, performance artist, masseuse, seem much less stigmatized now.
