What a waste of resources

I am by no means a supporter of human trafficing, but when the state and federal government lie to the public to divert local resources from legitament local law enforcement issues, it really chaps my ass.

Jan 20 Headline: "Sex trafficking of young girls could soar Dallas Women’s Foundation says"

February 17 Headline: "North Texas Law Enforcement, Attorney General's Office Prevent Human Trafficking Surge At 2011 Super Bowl"

The reality:
  • A sensational storyline about a surge in child trafficing was manufactured by a women's group
  • That headline was used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the AG's office to divert massive resources of 17 local law enforcement agencies
  • Despite 133 arrests, no surge in child trafficing is detected
  • AG's office takes credit that the task force "prevented" the surge that never was real
Someone posted a great article from The Observer detailing how bogus the study that is being quoted around the country as showing a surge in child sex trafficking really is.

Too lazy to look for it, though, sorry.
Great avitar, TheBizz.

Sorry, but this isn't new. Just another way to attract your, and my, money. But we keep putting up with it.
