McGregor

Personally I think McGregor was all hype. Not sure how many of you guys have followed him from the infancy of his career but I knew he wasn't shit after Mendes stepped in and almost beat him on extremely short notice. When I saw McGregor's take down defense was nil' I knew it was just a matter of time before anyone with half a brain and knowledge of MMA would deconstruct his fight game easily. Now, Diaz comes in and beats McGregor on 10 days notice all that to say I was one of the one who wasn't very surprised. This I will give McGregor. For all the talking he did before the fight and has done leading up to this point he was very humble in defeat and I appreciate that. What does he do next? I think go back down to his division and defend his title. Lets see if there are any MMA heads on this forum

answer is ...no
I imagine he'll go back to 145 and fight Aldo again at 200. Just a guess but Aldo is already talking stupid stuff and hyping it up.

He says he went up 2 divisions to fight Nate, but realistically he fought a 155lbs fighter like he was supposed to. Neither of them cut weight and Nate has been fighting at 155. If he fought RDA, it would be hard to pick McGregor over him with his lack of ground game.

Props to Connor though, he fights opponents on short notice and how many times do we see these guys refuse replacements and sit out. His promotional skills are great, he made a ton of money. Irish people will still love him and his next fight will still be huge.

The best part of that fight week was Connor talking junk, and Nate just saying "I don't give a fuck" with Connor freaking out "Well I dont give a fuck either!".... Sorry Connor, no one gives less fucks that a Diaz.

He's great at 145 which is where he should stay.

Not many could backup all the prefight bravado like Ali ,The Greatest of all Time! Ronda couldn't produce and now Connor...it'll be interesting to see whether they guiet down their prefight bravado after their latest losses.
First off your lifespan in MMA is short, secondly the fighters make pennies compared to boxing. Connor hyped up that fight against RDA and sold so many tickets, it was the first million dollar disclosed purse by Zuffa. Connor stated he stood to make almost $10 million after pay per view and endorsements. Only reason he accepted that fight against a 170 lber. Connor got cocky and didnt stick to his game plan, he would stayed on the outside and pointed Diaz to death he would of won. He got too close and tagged and felt the power of someone two weight classes above him. It was a no lose situation for hiim, he made millions and still keeps his belt.

McGregor gassed.

He was beating the living shit out of Diaz in the first round, had zero problem establishing his range, and then he gassed.

dos Anjos is shorter and thicker than McGregor. There is no reason to believe he would have a better gas tank at 155 than Conor and I believe he would have an extremely difficult time shooting on McGregor and turning it into a ground fight. On their feet and at McGregor's range dos Anjos gets butchered. His only shot is to be a blanket and groundfuck McGregor. I didn't see enough from Mendes to believe McGregor is especially susceptible to that.

Diaz is a totally different fight than dos Anjos, and not just because of the extra 15 pounds. Diaz is long. He can hang with Conor on his feet, take a huge beating, and as long as he can wait McGregor out he can submit him. To me the key is wearing Conor out physically and being able to absorb the inevitable punishment that goes along with it.

I think McGregor was preparing for an opponent that would not be comfortable in his (Conor's) range and who wouldn't be able to touch him on his feet. I also believe he could hurt dos Anjos and get him out of there relatively early. dos Anjos has been knocked out before and McGregor has superb accuracy and elite power at either featherweight or lightweight.

I think this slows the hype-train and forces McGregor back down to lightweight if not 145. He's a great fighter though. Unbelievable hands and perfect timing/accuracy.

No?
