Not fitting screen

Why are some threads too big for my screen? Are they being sent from a PC w/a bigger screen than mine. Thanks!

Threads too big for your screen? Can you please be more specific in describing your issue? then I can answer.

I've noticed that too. It mostly happens when someone downloads a giant photo and is annoying as hell.
It is as Try said. The window on your computer will assume the size of the photo that was loaded. I don't think that you can do anything about it. You can disable pictures to be loaded through your browser settings, but then you will have to change your settings back once you are done reading the thread.

What browser? MS IE auto resizes the images to fit thread display. Is this Firefox or other browser?

1) http://www.eccie.net/profile.php?do=editoptions
2) Scroll down near the bottom of the page, click "Images in Posts" dropdown list and select "Default (Enlarge in same window)"
3) Ensure "Images wider than this width..." and "Images taller than this height..." are both empty

Large images will initially appear large, but will scale to down to 640 pixels wide after they completely load. If you screen is microscopic, set a value smaller than 640 in the "Images wider" box.

Mine does the same, but it does correct itself after pics load. I hate it when it when it doesn't fit!!
Thanks Dent! I had not seen that option. I set mine up to 320 (half the standard setting).

Otherwise ... I dunno ... may just be a bug somewhere in the customizations to the forum software ...

To illustrate, if the window in which you have ECCIE open is maximized, press the restore button.

Now grab one a corner or edge of the window and move it in and out, observing the text of the posts. It will reflow to fit the horizontal window size until a certain lower limit is reached. That lower limit is set by the web designer and will vary from site to site, page to page and even element to element. In this case, the table cell that holds the text of posts has a lower limit around 300 pixels. Unless your screen is very, very small, your screen resolution will be well above that limit.

A block level element must be expanding the page content beyond your window size. The most common block level elements that can't be reflowed are images and embedded objects like video, flash, etc. Since the latter isn't permitted here, the likely culprit in your case will be a large image somewhere on the page you are veiwing. Text on the page will be exactly as wide as the image.

The next time you see a page "too big for [your] screen" scroll up and down the page. I'm certain you will find a large image temporarily expanding the horizontal content width beyond your window/screen size.

Using the options I posted above, ECCIE should have large images resized smaller for you, "restoring" text to a reflowable format.
