Interesting Info on Google

I don't post much, but couldn't let this one go. This applies to those of us with Google Voice numbers. Which is A LOT.

Google is now saying that it has the right to collect all of your call records, including who you call, when, for how long you talk, and SMS routing information. It doesn't say if this applies only to calls made through Google's services or if it is referring to calls you make on your mobile phone. After all, it already told us that it has the right to "associate your device identifiers or phone number with your Google Account," and to "collect device-specific information." Google, are you going to monitor our call logs now? Stay tuned for clarification on this point.

Is this something we should be worried about??

All the other mobile service providers collect and store your information on calls and log SMS. Google Voice is just doing what other cell providers have forever.

Of course I would not use a google account for a Gvoice number and also use that account for anything else. Just create a specific gmail login, just for your hobby Google voice account and use that.
Information is THE commodity of the 21st century. Why do you think that all of Google's services are free? Information is GOLD and Google (and facebook and twitter) is mining that gold. The paradigm has shifted and most people don't have a clue.

I noticed I have been getting spam text messages sent to my google voice account lately. The way the social networks collect data is creepy but I doubt we can do much about it.
Sure there is Jules. Its just not easy. Write the company and tell them you will not be using their services unless they change their business pratices. Encourage others to do the same. if enough people do this, they will change. Contact your comgressmen pushing for changes inthe law to prevent this abuse. Take a lot of people to get the desired result but it has to start somewhere.
Google does "anonymize" the info they have collected from all your calls, texts, & searches after 18 months. Little solice to know that the divorce lawyer will only find 18 months worth of my searches for "DFW redhead BDSM midget escort" in my Google dossier.
