Spring Creek Barbeque. Dallas tx.
Make a trip to Kansas City, Sweet...

For nice "sit-down" ambiance and great BBQ, JackStack BBQ...

For messy, all-over-your-face BBQ, Oklahoma Joe's...

Come to Kansas City, I'll buy you lunch and then eat you for dessert.

Pic N Smoke? where in Shawnee?
I agree with THE RENDEZVOUS in downtown Memphis. Not like what we have in Texas but really really good. I have heard of this OFF THE BONE place but have not tried it yet. MAIN STREET BBQ in Euless, TX (DFW area) is really good - for the meat. Spring Creek and Dickies also have good 'fixins." Also look here:

But as far as a free-standing BBQ classic joint, Clarke's Outpost in Tioga, TX. North of Little Elm, TX. Goo-ood!
