The Client List a Lifetime Movie

What is your take on the new lifetime movie The Client List based on the true story of woman in Texas who takes a position in a massage parlor to help her family pay bills after she and her husband loses their job and gets caught up in a prostitution sting.

Does anyone from Texas remember this story?

Jennifer Love Hewitt goes from Ghost Whisperer to provider.

The movie is based on "many true stories," reflecting the fact that more women than ever before are entering the world of sex work due to the economy.

I'm going to watch on Monday but a clip last night already made me throw up in my mouth a little. Stereotypical characters (one woman ferociously chomping on her gum) and an establishment that provides free drinks and Viagra for their clients.
Ummmm yeah.

I've seen two interviews of Jennifer Love Hewitt this week. I was hoping she would have a better attitude when discussing her role, but I was disappointed. While she did use the term "sex workers" in both interviews, she also used the term "hooker" with disgust on Leno, and sarcastically joked about mothers "taking one for the team" (referring to prostituting oneself for the "team" of one's family) on Jimmy Fallon.

Nonetheless, I'll be watching on Monday. Maybe I'll end up being pleasantly surprised after all.

Jennifer Love Hewitt keeps it classy as a desperate prostitute in Lifetime movie 'The Client List'

A typical day on the set of Jennifer Love Hewitt's new Lifetime movie, "The Client List," had the actress in four different lingerie outfits, tying one man to a bed and covering another in whipped cream.

"It was such a weird existence," Hewitt tells the News. "I would send my mom pictures from the set and we would joke about it. I would say, 'Mom, are you proud?' and she would say, 'It's what I've always dreamt for you.'"

All kidding aside, Hewitt fully embraced the chance to play Samantha Horton, a former Texas homecoming queen and physical therapist who turns to a life of prostitution to help her family survive the recession.

"The Client List," premiering next Monday at 9 on Lifetime, reveals Samantha's desperate situation. When both she and her husband lose their jobs and the bills keep stacking up, she accepts a position at a massage parlor, not knowing it's actually a front for a high-end prostitution business servicing a wealthy clientele. But instead of walking away, the money is too good for Samantha to turn down.

Cybill Shepherd also stars, as Samantha's opinionated mother.

"I was initially hesitant [about the role], because it was something different than I had ever done before. But once I got into the story, I was like, 'Wow, there's so much here,'" Hewitt says. "I love who Samantha is as a person. I love that you can judge her and root for her all at the same time."

Hewitt also serves as executive producer on the project, which allowed her to push her boundaries when she felt comfortable, then back off when she didn't

"The thing that I really liked about the project, that I'm really proud of, is we could have pushed the envelope even more, but we chose not to," she says. "It's not about how naked can she be. We walk a very classy line of telling the story and doing it with integrity."

For the record, Hewitt isn't naked in any of the scenes.

The character of Samantha Horton was inspired by true stories, but she is a fictional character - a compilation, Hewitt says, of many women in desperate situations.

"Right now in the United States, more women than ever are going into the sex industry due to the tough economic times," says Hewitt. "They want to feel like they're contributing somehow to their family."

"The Client List" will be the audience's first peek at Hewitt since her long-running CBS series, "The Ghost Whisperer," was canceled. Hewitt says she's considering other projects, but it may be a while before she gets back into series television.

"I'm not in a huge rush to do that again," she says. "I'm looking into a lot of different film options. I'd love to do some romantic comedies."

It's on Lifetime and stars Jennifer Love Hewitt. How much more indication that it's nothing but family-style pablum could you have?
I'll be watching it..
I'm w/ JB (for once, lol). I will not be watching it.

If it is done for Lifetime, it plays to a female audience, mostly married women, who will have definite biased opinions of escorts, and their husbands who may see them. And I would be willing to bet that they do not hold escorts in high esteem.
Lifetime movies are hilarious.
I'll be watching it too, I already scheduled myself off for the evening! lol. I liked her until I heard the hooker and toftt comments she made. Bitch. Its amazing the things that come out of "outsiders" mouths about this subject sometimes Some of us are working on bachelors degrees, hell some of us are working on masters, some of us do work at places where free drinks and viagra are offered, and some of us do smack our gum like we're livestock.... There are many different 'types' to me and sometimes I wonder if 'outsiders' see it that way or if they think that we are all the same. Did anyone see the Tyra (i hate her show but i wanted to watch this episode) episode called Porn Town where they had different types of providers on and they had to all take a role in the town?... there was everyone from a bunny ranch girl to an escort, to a stripper, to a street walker... and they had to decide who was going to be the mayor, lawyer, teacher, criminal, etc. I thought it was really interesting to see how they all thought for thier own reasons that they were so much better than the others girls..... Was not trying to get off topic, just a thought that came to me =)

I wonder if she is talking about the things she pretends to do for the movie or the things she really had to do to get into show business? I'm sure there is a difference.
I'll have the lube in one hand and the popcorn in another. Hope I don't get them confused!

Gag me. She is not attractive to me in the least. I am not going to be watching the movie. I'd rather masturbate to some gang bang porn than watch Jennifer Luvvvv Hewitt pretend to be a mom sacrificing for her kids....

And then make fun of it.

Bitch anyway.
Nope not me....no thank you!

Sorry, Rae, I won't be watching this BS anyway, but as a hobbyist I am definitely open to JLH as a provider. Wonder what her rate would be. That's one way to tell how realistic this show is in the first few scenes.

I watch a lot of these shows for more of research purposes than entertainment since I became involved in the fight for sex workers' rights. It's important to understand how the "average" American views sex workers to move forward in breaking those stereotypes. To a level, we all kinda' "get" what those stereotypes entail, but I'm sure I'm not alone here in hoping that the media will treat us with dignity and portray us in a more realistic manner some day and we'll be glad we tuned in.

Thanks for posting that link oenghus.

I plan to watch the show.

What I don't understand is why some of the ladies on the board get so angry just because Jennifer uses the word "hooker" when she's promoting the show.

Ladies, is the word "hooker" really that offensive?

From my perspective, a provider in a real sense "hooks" a client with the lure of sex. In that regard, the word seems natural and descriptive to me without being offensive.

I don't think the offense is in the word itself so much as it is in the mind of the person condemning it's use. Now, if you used the word "whore" then I would agree that it would be offensive, but hooker sounds fairly neutral to me.

By way of example, I understand that the term hooker is also used in rugby by one of the players in the front forward position who "hooks" the ball.

I doubt the rugby players take offense at the word.
