I happened to see a comment about Groupon on another thread, and rather than hijack that thread, thought I'd post something here.
Those of you who don't know about it, there are a couple of internet Daily Deals sites that you can register with and receive notifications of sweet offerings in the local area.
Most of the deals are at least 50% or more off the regular price. You get deals on food, spas, hotels, adventure outings, you name it, they have it. You just have to keep checking your email notifications.
Example: I bought a Groupon for $50 worth of food at DaddyJack's in FW and it cost me $25. You go to the restaurant, tell them you have a Groupon. Whatever the check comes to, they subtract the Groupon ($50 in this case) and you pay the balance. Don't forget to tip on the whole amount though.
Some places exclude alcohol, some don't.
You usually have at least 6 months to use the Groupon and there is also an app for your smartphone so you don't have to carry a bunch of Groupons around with you. You can just download the Groupons and show it to them on your smartphone.
