The Epoch Times scandal

Yet.....Another right wing scandal involving money. I passed a giant bill board just the other day with the Epoch Times promoting itself. I am sure many posters that post here are avid readers.



The Epoch Times, known for its right-leaning editorial stance and its spreading of conspiracy theories, has become a significant news source for many Republican politicians. It has notably gained traction among supporters of former President Donald Trump. The media outlet has been linked to Steve Bannon, former chief strategist to Trump.

Weidong Guan, the Chief Financial Officer of the Epoch Times, has been indicted by the Department of Justice on charges related to a sprawling international money laundering scheme. According to the indictment unsealed on Monday, Guan, allegedly laundered approximately $67 million in illegally obtained funds, which the indictment says was stolen from Americans' unemployment benefits and via other schemes, between 2020 and 2024.

Founded over two decades ago, the Epoch Times was launched by practitioners of Falun Gong, a Chinese organization often described as a religious cult.

Maybe we need to start a new thread? Six degrees of indictment. Every time someone is indicted we count how many hops it takes to get to Donald Trump.

The Epoch Times is no different than Fox News, CNN, or CNBC. They are all blow hards for their political base.

The news media died when Walter Cronkite died.

Soooo was the laundering linked to the times or the individual?

The news stories I saw said it was all related to the individual. Nothing about the news site. But its a piece of shit.
