On Jan. 27, 1838, Lincoln spoke before the Young Men’s Lyceum of Springfield, Illinois, about "the perpetuation of our political institutions." During that address, he said: "At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide."
Michael Burlingame, a chair in Lincoln studies at the University of Illinois Springfield, told us Lincoln "was denouncing mob violence which would lead to chaos, provoking the public to demand law and order, which would be provided by an ambitious leader who would rule tyrannically."
amazing what was spoken so long ago still hits home today
I love this country, I love our freedoms. With all its flaws, there has never been a greater nation with more freedoms and opportunities than ours. Our poor are considered well off by most any other nation. we have problems......and they are many. This country is becoming more and more divided. As Ronald Reagan said... goverment isnt the solution, goverment is the problem.
We can now add the media to the problem. They are sytematically dividing us more and more.
the solution is with the people, not the goverment. WE need to all realize we are not white or black, we are not straight or gay, we are not left or right, we are all americans, we are all equal and we all need to do whats right for this nation.
demand that our politicians work together for what is good for our nation, not what they want. demand that the so called news stations give us the actual news not their polictical based opinions. Same with big tech...
The majority of people in this country live normal lives and get along just fine with their neighbors regardless of what color they are or whatever differences they may have. It is the extremists that want to cause harm to this country not for the good of the country but for their own special interests.
And yes, we need to worry about americans first, we cannot solve the problems of other or help others before we take care of ours. That may sound cruel but we cannot be the savior of the world
sorry for the rant, didnt want to make this a tolstoy post but
i guess I did lol
