buffalo rochester?

I am starting my tour in upstate new york and would like to try Buffalo and rochester...any advice on the area or where to stay?

For rochester If you like bar nightlife, I can think of a place where they close the roads for the bar action. But one can still drive to the hotel. With many bars a short walk. Most with bar food, and food of all types. Its not a hight rated place. but the rooms are nice. Even some with a living room and bed room. But I do not think we can post the names of hotels. It is near down town.

Down town rochster does have some rated ones also. What are you looking for in a room. High rated, near the action, near the night life. Or just a quiet nice place.
