What effect will the Texas online prostitution laws have that are coming Sept. 1?

It’ll be interesting. My non professional legal interpretation is that even writing a review makes you liable to prosecution.

I suppose it's not going to have much of an effect on the indy's here, as we are not trafficking ourselves, but I wonder what other repercussions it might bring.

I think that while it's main purpose is to deter trafficking against a provider's will (aka pimping), it looks like it is also referring to websites such as this one that allows the platform for traffickers to adverise their flock to be held legally accountable. Indirectly, it will affect indy providers as well.

I have no doubt there will be more LE impersonators online to make even more stings to both hobbyists and providers alike. Everyone knows a couple of stings and mentioning Eccie as a foundation origination for them on the news and the hobbyist/provider herd will scatter. If you do not have regulars and are one of those one and done hobbyists or providers who depend upon 95%+ of your business to be first timers because no one repeats with you as your service is not so good, then you may be SOL in this world after Sept 1.

Shit. Didn't it say right to sieze and freeze? That's not just for trafficking they use that so they don't need cause for warrants meaning they can get any info they deem relevant and use it accordingly

Maybe that explains the perfectly stated new sign I saw at my last visit to a local amp

“We only do regular massages does not provide any about sexual services”
“No sex”
AMP shouldn't use the term massage unless they are licensed. Otherwise, they can use terms such as bodyrub or relaxation.

Here’s a link to the OH2 discussion to which I think Athena was referring:

It kind of got off topic at times, and some of the posts were a bit wordy and esoteric, but some interesting points were made.

Here is the most cogent summary of what these laws mean:

"Right out of the gate, we know these new laws will not have any judicial analysis. Texas criminal defense lawyers need to be aware that aggressive prosecutors may push past the edge of the envelope in these situations. Appeals will be filed after convictions based upon these statutes."

It is really disappointing how much the legal and business community have come to rely on this tactic. Charge someone first (or sue them, if this is the business world) and cause them to spend unsustainable amounts of time, money, and hassle in the hopes that it drives them out of business before they even GET to appeal.

LE has bottomless pockets compared to the folks who will really be victimized by these laws, i.e. consenting adults who ain't hurting (or trafficking!) anyone.

Your rights are eroding on a daily basis right in front of your face, folks. Free speech (TRULY free speech!), your gun rights, due process....all going down the tubes. And we are letting it happen. Poor ol' George Orwell is spinning in his grave like a muthefukker.....

(the above is a repost of a reply I in a thread about this in the Upstate NY forum; my apologies for anyone reading this twice)
