64G Ipads can be purchased extremely cheap on Ebay these days.

1) Purchase iPad

2) Jailbreak iPad

3) Create a Gmail Account using iPad WiFi feature.... visit a Starbucks, McDonalds or any place you can leach free Internet if you like

4) Get a Google Voice Number.

5) Download and install GV Connect using Google Voice Number Information

6) Download and install Talk a Tone App using Google Voice Number Information

7) In Google Voice on a desktop identify Google Talk as the Phone Client you want to use to make and receive calls.

Your $220 iPad will now ring like a phone and pop up a dialer to use like a phone whenever it has a WiFi connection.

Set up your regular Cell Phone if you like aws a WiFi Router for the iPad to use.

or buy a Prepaid O2 simm card or ATT Simmcard with a date plan and plug it in.

make or receive calls now over cell phone network using voip.....

Now you never have to "hide" you Hobby Phone from prying eyes..... Just hide the apps in a folder and password protect it and set up ringers for times you are safe to use.

Without the Simm card installed, using wireless only, your spouse doe not get access to that family talk plan feature of locating your phone on a map....

Stick with WiFi only and you never have a future cost of any kind.....

Who can't explain having a tablet handy?.....
Doesn't Skype with a number accomplish the same thing? OK it costs some pennies per month based on calls....

And then your kid asks to play Angry Birds on your tablet and asks in front of mom, "Daddy, what's in this folder...?"

Cool that you set up a tablet to act as your hobby phone, but it's probably a little more technologically complicated than most people are willing to go through when they can just go out and buy a TracPhone that also has no monthly fee and is easy to hide in the car or at work.

folders can be hidden and Pword protected. 2nd phones can be found and can be difficult to explain.

Tracphones have minutes that need to be replenished and records are not that hard to subpoena if discovered

No, I don't use it as a Hobby Phone. Something I set up for a lady actually for a different purpose and thought others could use.
