411 Bitcoin shakedown (hobbyman email)

bored@home's Avatar
Been a bit since I logged into my email I use for 411 and noticed a decent amount of spam (and some non spam) but one was interesting...
Subject: Important
Message: Hey {my name used}
Blah blah blah ....{my full 411 login pieces}
Pay .07 ($700) bitcoin or "we" out you.

Curious if anyone else in our local community got this?

The method described in the message for obtaining the 411 credentials and implied other details... well doesn't jive based on my methods of access. So leaves the question of how and where.

This is a scam currently going around. I got one related to porn sites. They claimed to have filmed me through my PC camera while watching porn. Only thing is, my desktop PC does not have a camera. They also quoted an old password that I used to use for some accounts. It seems there's a database of hacked passwords somewhere on the dark web, and they're using it for these scams to imply credibility. Just a reminder that it's important to change passwords (at least critical ones) fairly often.
