UFC

So, Sixx dropped the bomb that he thinks Jake Shields will beat Georges St. Pierre in the upcoming UFC 129 on April 30th.

That got me thinking. I've seen quite a few posts here on football, basketball etc.....

How many people here watch UFC fights? Do you only watch UFC or other promotions such as Showtime, Bellator etc? Any people here that train in MMA?

What's your prediction for the St. Pierre vs Shields fight.

Who's your favorite UFC fighter and why?

I love two sports football and ufc. I beleive Gsp will win fairly easy. Shields won't be able to take him down. And Shields standup game sucks. Gsp will pick him apart striking and maybe take him down when he wants to for points.

GSP. Will definitely have that PPV on the 30th. Did you see the last one with Shogun vs Jon Jones?? It was a dismantling..

Oh yea, when Shogun got the kick to the face it was all over. He never truly recovered from that and was out of it the rest of the fight. Jones is a beast, he is taller than everybody with good standup plus comes from a wrestling background. He is gonna be hard to beat.

UFC junkie.

Jake Shields will pull off a win because he has an excellent ground game, decent striking, and GSP is human. GSP is due for a loss and Shields is the perfect candidate for an upset. I don't think GSP is concerned with Shields as much because Shields came from Strikeforce and struggled some in his UFC debut.Shields is talented enough to beat an A grade fighter who brought their B game come fight night . Shields dismantled Dan Henderson to prove a point and will be hungry for blood. I like the guy who has the most to gain... Jake Shields...

My favorite UFC fighter is Brock Lesnar. He has very good skills for being so raw. He also is entertaining which puts asses in seats. I think he pisses off MMA purists because a guy so raw was able to come in with really no true warm up fight to pad their record and beat quality opponents right away like Frank Mir and Couture

You make some good points about Shields. Here's where I think though that you're overestimating him. Henderson came into the fight against Shields looking out of shape (compared to usual) and winded. I think HE took Shields too lightly. Although you're right in saying that Shields dominated the fight he also showed a glaring weakness. When he took Henderson down repeatedly, his ground and pound was weak. Yes he managed to keep position but if you get a chance watch the fight again. On top of Henderson his punches were weak and ineffective.
One thing you never have to worry about with GSP is his conditioning. He is always in top shape for his fights.
The only thing I'm a little concerned about is GSP's recent statement that in training this time he decided to go back to his "Karate background" and focus some time on that. Hmmmm, not sure if that's just strategy talk to throw Shields off or if he was serious. We'll have to see.

The Shogun vs. Jones fight was awesome. I watched it in a club in New Orleans. I wish Silva would go back up to 205 and fight Jones. I'd much rather see that fight than a potential GSP vs Silva fight.

ehh so i try not to miss any ufc fights. went when they came to austin a few months ago. when brock lesner came back, the only place i could find that wasnt full was a strip club. ricks cabaret. how fucking distracting is this?
needless to say, i got up and sat at a different table cos she kept getting in the way and i was there to watch the fight. me- "get your fucking gyrating crotch out of the way of the tv!!"

Not wanting to start an argument -- just responding to DTorchia's original question.

I put UFC right up there with NASCAR as 2 sporting events in which I have absolutely no interest in watching.
