When it is conducted by an "activist" is does not merit that label "Study" nor is it news. So sad. So disingenuous. So cynical.

It is a crime that I just had three minutes of my time stolen by a very biased "research" organization when I was in the middle of planning my next big heist....

I was committing misdemeanors long before I was buying pussy!!

I like the word "misdemeanor"... it's so much friendlier than "felony".. LOL
If it has Melissa Farley's name attached you can usually bet it's gonna be random crap strung together to sound more important than it is.

I was particularly impressed with the statistic that "Almost three in four of the sex buyers reported they learned about sex from pornography, whereas only 54 percent of the non-buyers did so." So, let's guess, 70% learned about sex from porn versus 54%. Big difference, huh? And that is what these guys admit.

Of course whenever a national research firm calls me to ask about my habits, I've always been a "non-buyer." (Just in case it is an investigator hired by a former SO.)

What crap!
Yup and according to LE and other agencies of that type providing leads to drug use...??!! I think if a provider is using, she got into this to help support her habit not the other way around...
not to be funny or nothing but wasn't there a survey on providers as well how many have actually done time for other things other than prostitution ie: drugs theft violence etc. I mean really its the whole (genre) that has a bad rap not just the hobbiest.

I am assuming they compensated for the study time and travel......you think they bought some hookers with it?

KKA
It's all statistics, the research is useless.
It's like saying that people who get into car accidents are more likely to be drivers.
Here...
ASSUMPTION: If it's true that people who commit crimes are more likely to pay for sex than those who don't, then this research will always come up with the same result.
Because if you take a sample of 100 people who pay for sex, you will have more people in that group that commit crimes than if you take a 100 people who do not pay for sex.
Therefore, if you agree with the above assumption, the statistics will be true that people who pay for sex will be more likely to commit crime.
This is not a "study", it's a propaganda piece.
Even if their statistics are accurate, the article is written to present a causal relationship between buying sex and crime.

It is always a good idea to get some background on the people behind such studies.

Quote:
A new study from the Prostitution Research and Education non-profit group reveals that men who pay for sex are more likely to commit crimes, including violent crimes against women

Who is behind the Prostitution Research and Education non-profit group you ask? Lets look at their website:

Quote:
PRE was founded in 1995 by Dr. Melissa Farley (view Dr. Farley's CV), a research and clinical psychologist.

But who is Dr Melissa Farley really?

Lets ask Wikipedia: ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melissa_Farley )

Quote:
Melissa Farley (born 1942) is an American clinical psychologist and researcher[1][2][3] and feminist anti-pornography and anti-prostitution activist.

And what have people said about her research methods:

Quote:
In response to the Scottish study, a paper authored by some 15 academics and sexual health experts was submitted to the Scottish Parliament, strongly rebuking the methods and conclusions of the study. Amongst other things, the report states - "This research violates fundamental principles of human research ethics in that there is no evidence of any benefit to the population studied. Rather the purpose of the research appears to have been to vilify the population of men who were chosen to be interviewed. " In addition they criticize the work as biased, ill informed and unhelpful.

And what are her views on "violence":

Quote:
Farley is also an anti-pornography activist.[4] In 1985, she led a National Rampage Against Penthouse alongside Nikki Craft. The "Rampage" was a campaign of public destruction of bookstore-owned copies of Penthouse and Hustler (which they denounced as violent pornography). Farley was arrested 13 different times in 9 different states for these actions.
So after reading all that, my only comment really is about possibly changing the title of the thread to:

Menopausal Women who have lost all sexual desire likely never to pay for sex and be against pornography. ( oh and also be in favor of changing laws to conform to their antiquated view of the world.)

Now I'm done.
