It's been a while since I was active in the hobby, but there were no deposits back then.
Is the deposit a 100% scam?

I can see the pros and cons of the deposit, I just don't feel comfortable about it.

How do y'all feel about it?

I wouldn't feel comfortable about having to make a deposit. If, however, a deposit were 'required' I might consider it after some amount of trust has been built up. And there are a few I feel I can trust in that regard, but then, those also have that trust with me.
On its surface I'm not a fan of deposits.

I generally agree it's an easy scam, but there are a couple of providers that I would trust to send a deposit to.

I understand both sides of it, it would suck to get scammed out of however much you sent, but it would also suck to set an appointment with a client, clean, get made up and dressed up or have to turn down or reschedule other clients who are interested only to have the guy flake on the appointment. Then you'd be screwed out of the call and of course the money, but you missed out on potential calls with a clients that would've actually shown up.

The main provider I see has a system that I think is pretty fair, but maybe it just seems that way because I've seen her often enough to trust her.
She just leaves it up to the client to decide how much he sends. She usually gets sent $20-50 and she says it helps put her at ease and signals that the client is at least semi-serious about the appointment. Of course the deposit counts towards the donation.
I wouldn't feel comfortable sending 100's to a provider I haven't seen before, but her system is reasonable to me.

This is the frustrating part of this profession. No call no shows are an issue. Our time is money, and the more established can backfill if you just send a text. I recognize everyone has life and things come up, as i too have a life outside of this. However, more often than not, especially with the newer clients, they tend to disrespect our time.

I don’t want to ask for deposits, but also I believe that if a client expects me to keep an appt for them, I think some skin in the fight would help them be more considerate. Everyone wants an organized on time companion, the biggest challenge I have is scheduling even with a scheduler because of the variable of whether or not a client keeps an appt.

I def do not continue the conversation with anyone that ask for a deposit, especially if they say I need to go to a website to reserve an appointment. I've been scammed more times than truth when it came to deposits so no more. But it seems like almost everyone is asking for deposits these days. Makes it almost impossible to find a regular provider these days.

I have yet to pay a deposit and I too have enjoyed the company of TRD without a deposit. I also avoid trying the ladies on the listcrawler and other sites. If you and the lady are on eccie, oh2, etc then each can do research to get comfortable with each other. Ms TRD has shared the perspective from her side and makes many valid points. How many of us have had our time wasted by a NCNS incident with a provider. I haven’t seen providers making deposits with a client to ensure that they will show up. It’s like my doctor, he will charge you if you don’t cancel/change at least 24 hours in advance but you have no recourse when they leave you hanging in the waiting room for 2 hours.

At the end of the day, courtesy to each other is primary. If one party is having an issue with being late or needing to cancel, then send a quick text. TRD and I do it all the time.
