Why isn't there more activity near State Line Road? I know there's one bar by the Google Fiber store near Westport, but that's about it. Didn't some mobsters used to have a gambling racket right on the State Line?
It just seems like a natural place for bars, hotels, casinos, liquor stores, gas stations, and even streetwalkers. Can you imagine streetwalkers crossing the road to a different state...the cops' heads would explode!
The last chance bar, southwest blvd, straddled the stateline, owned by the mob. It only worked because jurisdiction used to end at the stateline. So if Missouri was raiding the building they would just walk to the kansas side and vice versa, that will not work today because every state has a cross jurisdiction agreement.
Streetwalkers used to hang out on Woodsweather Road and 9th Street in the West Bottoms for just this reason. Word would spread about a cruiser in the area and they'd stroll across the state line. As DD says, there is cross-state jurisdiction now.
