I'll leave this for the "what-about" crew. Add yours. I'll add current violent threats and acts by the radical reationist and fascist-minded on fringes of the right.

The protests that followed the Floyd killing began as a response against state sanctioned murder. Have at it!

She had been born to a working family, ironically her father being a career banker. She won a full academic scholarship to Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, and began attending there in 1967. She majored in sociology and made the Dean's list every year. During this time, there were demonstrations and riots against the United States' involvement in the Vietnam War. Some anti-war and anti-government groups began to resort to crimes in order to promote their message. She soon became involved in one of these groups, based in left-wing politics. She also joined the National Strike Information Center, a clearinghouse for student protests across the country.

Working on the new look:

What was once the subject of serious discussion only on the political periphery has migrated closer to the mainstream.

But while that trend is clear, there is far less agreement among experts about what it means.

Some elements of the far right view it literally: a call for an organized battle for control of the government. Others envision something akin to a drawn-out insurgency, punctuated with eruptions of political violence, such as the attack on the F.B.I.’s Cincinnati field office in August. A third group describes the country as entering a “cold” civil war, manifested by intractable polarization and mistrust, rather than a “hot” war with conflict.

At a recent fund-raiser, Michael T. Flynn, who briefly served as Mr. Trump’s national security adviser, said that governors had the power to declare war and that “we’re probably going to see that.”

On Monday, federal prosecutors showed a jury in Washington an encrypted message that Stewart Rhodes, founder of the Oath Keepers armed extremist group, had sent his lieutenants two days after the 2020 presidential election: “We aren’t getting through this without a civil war.”

Picture? Instead of piece title?

While prosecutors have charged more than 900 people with crimes related to the January 6 riot on the Capitol, the Oath Keepers trial is their first effort to prove that a plan to use violence helped cause that attack.

“These defendants concocted a plan for an armed rebellion to shatter a bedrock of American democracy,” Assistant US Attorney Jeffrey Nestler, the lead prosecutor in the case, said in his opening statement on Monday. “They banded together to do whatever was necessary—up to and including force—to stop the transfer of power from President [D]ump to president-elect Joe Biden.”

The Oath Keepers’ defense is also fairly straightforward. They claim members of the group came to Washington to help protect speakers at events supporting [D]ump and with the hope that [D]ump would invoke the Insurrection Act, a law that allows presidents to use emergency measures to put down rebellions, defense lawyers said.

“There was no plan,” Philip Linder, one of the lawyers for Rhodes, said in his opening statement. “They were there to work security.”

Flynn warned the crowd that they were in the midst of a “spiritual war” and a “political war” and urged people to get involved.

ReAwaken acts as a petri dish for Christian nationalism and pushes the idea that there’s a battle underway between good and evil forces. Those who are considered evil include government officials and Democrats.

It’s “a pep rally on spiritual steroids” said Kristin Kobes Du Mez, a history professor at Calvin University in Michigan, who studies evangelicalism.

ReAwaken often appears in churches with speakers addressing attendees from the pulpit. The Batavia show was staged on the grounds of a church, after faith and community leaders in nearby Rochester told organizers they weren’t welcome.

Inside a revival tent set up outside, people sat in white folding chairs packed so tightly the rows between were nearly impassable. From the stage, speakers stirred up fear and hatred. Immigrants are rushing over the border “to take your place,” one said. Homosexuals and pedophiles are classified in the same category: sinful people who don’t honor God. Life-saving vaccines are creating “a damn genocide.” “The enemy wants to muzzle you," another speaker warned. "He wants to shut your mouth.”

Clark, the Tour’s principal organizer and emcee, opened the Batavia show bellowing: “Good morning, New York! And good morning, New York Attorney General Letitia James!” The greeting was a reference to a letter James’ sent to Flynn and Clark warning them against violent or unlawful conduct.

I am sorry but I must be aging-out of the current vernacular.

What does "O.G." refer to?

This thread isn't about state sponsored violence. It's about GOP violence. I just pre-empted and allowed for the whataboutism in response.

It's about time you chimed in. I, I (again?) am fair and balanced. Nobody is justifying violence. You're reading something that isn't there. But that's just how both of us operate.

And yes, I "say so."

Not "brilliant" on your part.

I'd post an insult. But . . . the points.

According to WLWT, Police shot Shiffer five times, hitting him in the head, lower back, chest and thigh. Shiffer had also received several shrapnel injuries as well as blunt force trauma to his head.

The toxicology report says Shiffer was not under the influence of drugs.

Not hoping, dork. Just expecting. Expecting tradition to continue.

I loved to hear Buckley speak.
REALLY loved it when 60 Minutes had his son in front of the camera while he was on acid.

Glad Margret Hoover took over Firing Line.
More revisionist history, (or simply made up crap), to justify the antics of the current crop of Progressive/Liberal/Socialist/Democrat Demagogues and Poverty Pimps masquerading as “Leaders”.
