Sex workers can now apply for health insurance without negative repercussions

Just passing along in case some of you were unaware. I wish you all the best. The very last sentence is the key to it all.

A San Francisco sex worker organized an effort to get other sex workers to sign up for health insurance and apparently some don't like it.

The article below shows that some people who work in (as they put it) 'areas of dubious legality' will be eligible for insurance subsidies under the ACA *aka* Obamacare.

So healthy young people beyond subsidizing unhealthy older people will also be helping to get prostitutes cheap health insurance.
In the all-cash, off-the-books sex industry, workers can be particularly high risk and insurance is often out of reach. Many sex workers — a broad term that can refer to a number of services, including sexual massage, prostitution, and escort and dominatrix work — consider themselves self-employed entrepreneurs who can’t afford to purchase healthcare. But that could all change with the Affordable Care Act.
“Jolene,” another sex worker who had already enrolled through the California exchange, was also on hand to talk users through the process. A key detail for the crowd: Enrollment doesn’t require users to report their employment.
Excellent read

Yes it is true about your occupation not being questioned, the difficulty lies in that this is all based on reported income. The law will be enforced by the IRS. It will be a part of your tax return. So that is where it will get dicey, not the occupation but the reported earnings.

The copays will make them drop the insurance.

I already pay for their healthcare with cash donations for time and companionship. Now, if I could just pick one and add them to my family plan in exchange for a couple monthly visits and this problem would be solved.

Smart escorts who've been in the game for years i imagine have thought this through. Maybe they set up a trader joe's shack or claim to be working in nursing (in scrubs when you see them) or in psychology. I imagine if they are high enough earners they should have incentives to file. Many ladies that I've talked to have goals of owning a home first and foremost. If she wants to buy a house or apply for credit she'll need to report some income.

Some have applied for massage licenses and I'm sure there are other licenses they can apply for that will allow them to claim income. However just like barbers why report it all if it's a cash business. Again most won't get audited by the IRS as it's small potatoes the big fish are in corporate America. I think for escorts the real threat of being audited may only come if they are busted by LE who would in turn report them to the IRS.

All this talk of taxes is hurting my head. I need to have some kids or something I'm getting screwed every year with a crazy tax bill. The shit really is unfair. Especially that fucking school tax. I didn't have kids for a reason I shouldn't be taxed for other people's fucking habits. Lol. I digress
ACA plans aren't readily accepted by a lot of hospitals for inpatient care. The copays, high deductibles and organizations refusing to accept ACA insurances is a nuisance. Not to mention all the shit with the IRS will put these hookers through to show they're self employed

Not quoting several good comments. But piling on the ACA:

1. it is cheap or free for poor people
2. it is expensive for rich people
3. My doctors aren't on it (so i pay them cash just like my hookers)
4. Immunizations and a few other things lobbyists/vendors pushed for are covered 100%
5. Nothing else is covered...your're basically fucked.

It's a crock of shit.

You mutha fuckers that voted for Obama are to blame.

3.) You can't possibly believe you're more credentialed and smarter than Obama. If you think you are what is your ivy league academic basis or better yet your proven political track record? I refuse to believe you actually believe that. I don't begrudge your opinion and yes I am a mother fucker. ;-) . I'm also extremely proud and unapologetic of Obama our first black PRESIDENT and the outstanding legacy of helping others that he's leaving behind.

I always help cover their medical insurance. It's called leaving $$$ on their dresser or throw it and stick it on their filthy wet cum covered face.
