Star Ratings for Threads / A Passion one or two and unused for the most part

I have a hater that hits absolutely every thread I start.

95% of them at least and I doubt he so much as even reads them. he simply rates them low with the 1 star.

If I click the 5 star and it sits at 3 forever

I went a few pages back and hit threads that haven't been looked at in weeks for an experiment and went to the opposite extreme from whatever the rating was.

Most of the time I saw a 40 or 50% difference in the change of the rating.

Obviously it is a feature used by less than 5 people in any thread on average.

My belief is that "extremes" make people open a thread,

I want to see what the hubbub is about.... Something with a 5 or a 1 need to get looked at.

Truthfully, if there is ANY start on the thread I open it I guess because SOMEONE went to the trouble to click the button.

Does anyone else have that opinion or a different one?

lol when I see a one star thread that is not a provider ThreAD, I up it as a big FUCK YOU to the miserable son of a bitch!

Ratings? Does anyone really care to look at those?

I gauge for my own which threads I want to follow based on the initial posts in any thread. Ratings, emoticons, frequent bumps, etc........they're mainly artificial ways of trying to increase thread visibility....

Im sorry I was bored one night and rated all the posts ...I have no life.... Just kidding

I haven't ever paid much attention to the ratings but more about the topic. There are plenty that I've never opened due either to the topic or info from mousing over the topic.

Thread ratings? I ignore them. And Whispers' little experiment demonstrates that I should continue to ignore them. Like any poll, they are only useful if a representative sampling of people respond. I tend to read any recently updated thread in the forums I follow, at least until the thread proves to be useless.

considering I have dozens of highly viewed "one star threads" it does seem to indicate that very few care for them one way or another.
