Actually, people probably call the first one country fried steak, but adding the batter really jazzes up this cut of meat. Nice crispy coating tastes almost as good as the beaten up, tenderized piece of meat inside.
There was a chicken fried steak thread sometime back, and someone mentioned Jody's in Temple. Over the past few months I've been there 3 times, and their chicken fried steak (especially the coating) is terrific. And the portions? I can barely finish the "half order".
