German Greens Want To Subsidize Disabled Access To Prostitutes
The German Green Party wants to grant people with severe health issues taxpayer-funded access to prostitutes. Green Party Spokeswoman Elisabeth Scharfenberg imagines a system where doctors can issue prescriptions to sick people who can’t afford prostitutes on their own account.
“Funding for sexual assistance is conceivable for me,” Scharfenberg told newspaper Welt am Sonntag. “The municipality could advise on local offers and grants.”
An increasing number of prostitutes already offer their services at retirement homes in Germany, where prostitution has been legal since 2002. A “sexual adviser” at one of the homes told Welt that the services have been a “blessing” for many patients.
Karl Lauterbach, a member of parliament from the Social Democrats, called the idea “outlandish” and warned against “commercialization of this area.”
Even members within the Green Party wonder why this is on the radar during an election year.
“Why do such adventures always come up in election years?” said Boris Palmer, one of Germany’s few Green Party mayors, according to The Local.
The idea is modeled upon a similar system in the Netherlands, where people can receive need-based state grants with a medical note stating they can’t get sexual satisfaction any other way.
