Personally NO debates imo (or even Public events by politicians) should be in any language OTHER THAN ENGLISH. Originally Posted by garhkal

I don't think orourke is right for the Senate seat but that's a hell of a way to turn out votes.

There are a shitload of US citizens - and registered voters - whose primary language is Spanish.

The State of Texas official documents are written in both languages. A portion of Houston’s street signs are in two languages — and Spanish isn’t one of them. In Maine, you’ll find a large French speaking population.
.
So what’s your point? Is it your contention that only English speaking America s should be allowed to vote in a Federal Election?

Texas isn’t the only state that officially recognizes more than one language.

Since there is such a high percentage of Spanish speaking citizens here it only makes sense for candidates try to and reach them through language. Cruz should speak it better since half of his family does. Beto is more in touch with us Texans.

We do need a government albeit limited and that government takes money to run. He suggests a flat tax that people file on postcards. What agency would he have handle the federal revenue collection?

Both might need to concede thar both agencies are needed but may be in need of restructuring.

Neither will be much a representative for those that vote against them. "The middle ground has yellow lines and dead armadillos", said Robert "Beto" O'rourke.
Certainly you realize that’s not true, ff.

Your use of the term “all liberals hate” is not only a gross generalization but insulting to everyone who doesn’t agree with your political views.

And that includes most of America.

Please quit acting the victim. Surely you understand oppression and discrimination. Sounds like you’re feeling sorry for yourself.

Nobody makes me feel oppressed or discriminated against because I’m an old white man. Why are you so convinced that’s the reason you feel “ALL LIBERALS HATE YOU?”

You get no sympathy from me. Originally Posted by Yssup Rider

As for guns, I agree with his opinions for the most part. The only thing I would like to see different is to have more than one level license when it comes to what you can possess. That would also take care of most issues such as AR-15 style rifles and high capacity magazines.
Require background checks for all gun sales to ensure that firearms only get into the hands of responsible, law-abiding individuals. This means finally closing the gun show, online, and boyfriend loopholes.

Stop selling weapons of war and high-capacity magazines to ensure that firearms designed to kill as effectively and efficiently as possible on the battlefield aren’t used in our schools, our streets, our churches, and our concerts.

Block the erosion of Texas’ license to carry standards by opposing Concealed Carry Reciprocity, which would force Texas to allow anyone from states with weak to nonexistent conceal carry laws to disregard our own public safety requirements.

Fully support federal research on gun violence so that we can better understand and address its root causes.

And the language requirement wasn't spelled out in the Constitution but came later in a statute.

Just six years after the Constitution took effect, Congress deliberately rejected a request to publish copies of federal laws in German. Two years later, Congress rejected a subsequent and similar request. The debates cited the cost of printing in multiple languages and the confusion that might result from problems in translation. These concerns are as valid today as they were over two hundred years ago.

In 1811, President James Madison signed the Louisiana Enabling Act, establishing the conditions under which Louisiana could become a state. It required that all laws, records, and written proceedings of the new state to be in English.

LOUISIANA (1811) Louisiana Enabling Act, 2 U.S.Stat. 641

1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the inhabitants of all that part of the territory or country ceded under the name of Louisiana, by the treaty made at Paris on the thirtieth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and three, between the United States and France . . .

3. And be it further enacted, ...that after the admission of the said territory of Orleans as a state into the Union, the laws which such state may pass shall be promulgated and its records of every description shall be preserved, and its judicial and legislative written proceedings conducted in the language in which the laws and the judicial and legislative written proceedings of the United States are now published and conducted...

Thirteen states were carved out of the Louisiana Purchase territory: Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado. The original area also included parts of Texas and New Mexico and even a part of Canada (subsequently ceded by another treaty). When Madison signed this document in 1811, there were already seventeen states "conducting their judicial and legislative proceedings" in English. Hence, according to Madison, there should be no argument that at least thirty to thirty-two states should have English as the prescribed language for conducting U.S. governmental business.

Spanish wouldn't become a major language subset in the U.S. until the annexation of Florida, Texas, California, New Mexico and Arizona.

FWIW, Columbus was Italian (Genoese).

And Beto is still a dress -- not kilt -- wearing Irish (not Hispanic) dip-shit with the brain cells of a pumpkin seed.

In addition to being an Irish (not Hispanic) dip-shit, Beto is a liar. From tonight's debate:

"I did not try to leave the scene of the accident," O'Rourke responded. "Though driving drunk, which I did, is a terrible mistake for which there is no excuse, or justification, or defense, and I will not try to provide one."

(The Daily Wire)
Anyone care to wager that Beto tries to once again flee the "scene of the accident" on election night?
