looks like there is problems with the Air Force command decision making over certain types of hard ware.
There's talk of getting new missiles for the Air Force. I think its time to skip getting new missiles.
One of the decision regarding the missiles baffled me. that was the early retirement of the MX Peace Keeper missile. the Mx missile was a very robust & very accurate missile platform developed & built in the 1980s. It was far accurate than the Minuteman III missile developed & built in the 1960s.
in 2005, the bush administration in deciding to follow the terms of the START II treaty which was never ratified asked the AF on which missile systems to keep. AF says miniuteman III.
this is where both camps got stupid over this. they shouldn't have asked AF what missiles to keep and the AF command should have known better.
the obvious answer was to keep the MX missile, a much newer and accurate system and retire the aging minute man III missile. MX missile would have been kept in service for another 20 years.
the plan by the AF was to retire the MX missile, and replace the minuteman III warheads with MX warheads giving the minuteman III MX like accuracy. one small problem with that plan. it was found out that AF didn't do on all of the missiles, just on some of them.
