Why can't I seen private messages

Why can't I send any more private messages, this statement keep coming up:

1.You have reached your stored private message quota and cannot send any further messages until space has been created.

I don't understand why that keeps coming up I cleared out my private messages, can someone help me

Did you clear out your Sent Items folder?
