How did people meet escorts in the pre-internet era?

My escort experience was in the late 2000's.
They were listed in the phone book yellowpages under adult entertainment. Or you just went to strip club and tried to work the girls for information. That was always my favorite way. It gave the thrill of the chase to a degree.

There used to be a lot more girls on the street.
Hotel bars, chat lines, late night television commercials, ads in the sports section of the newspaper, yellow pages listed pages and pages of escort agencies. Hostess bars. Strip clubs. Street corners. Word of mouth.

An easy way was to talk to a bellman or desk clerk at a motel/hotel. They often got a cut from the transaction.
If you were traveling and checked the yellow pages for escort agencies, the pages were often worn or even missing.
Or had notes and writing on them. And there were more massage parlors and jack shacks with lingerie modeling. And brothels that operated by word of mouth.

I find this soooo fascinating.

I was once told that travelers could also get info from their taxi drivers.

I remember using a payphone after paging a few escorts from the yellow pages. Who uses pagers anymore?

Let's just say I certainly did, and got some....interesting offers. Of course I didn't take anyone up on it but seeing the men scurry off when my dad comes looking for me and announced my real age was hilarious. I must have radiated woman of loose morals cause I've been mistaken for his sugar baby in Vegas as well.
