Methane is a green house gas that contributes to global warming. While I'm not a cow, I do belch a lot, so I will continue to wear a mask, to reduce my carbon footprint. Now instead of doing it for public health, I'll be doing it to save the planet!

If you actually take the time to read Fauci's email in context, it says that regular (not N95) masks do not protect you from breathing in the virus. It might block snot from being inhaled. Nothing new there....regular masks were always said to be a means for minimizing spread of YOUR potentially infectious droplet secretions to OTHERS. Seems many don't want to understand that concept. Fauci's interpretation based on knowledge AT THAT TIME, before full understanding of the prevalence of the virus (hence the subsequent mask advisory for all to protect others) was fundamentally correct.

I don't remember the numbers, but studies indicated the non-N95 masks did provide some protection to the wearer too. If say you cut your chances of getting COVID by 40% by wearing a non-N95 mask, and somebody with COVID cuts his chances of giving it to you by 60%, then perhaps the total reduction would be 1 - 0.6x0.4 = 76%?
