Are you proud or would you be offended to be labelled a redneck?
A gentlemen from houston was telling me how the media with all those redneck "reality" shows are giving a bad impression of how texas is. Texas is not redneck. Your thoughts?

I say I am proud of these parts of redneck-ism: humility, not putting on airs, being close to the land, loyalty to family, respect for elders, strong sense of community.
I am not proud of these parts of redneck-ism: close-mindedness, racism, cronyism, hypocrisy, fear of outsiders, resistance to learning. Originally Posted by Meerschaum

Any other label is basically a projection of the bias and stereotypes of the person who feels superior to the party being labeled derogatorily. Most labels are also fluid and subject to what someone wants it to mean. I don't fit any label IMHO and when someone wants to assign one to me I can usually point out why it is not applicable.
