Why does the new one that supposed to be better technology looks dark, murky,

and lacks contrasts, brightness and sharpness?

It also has more color as if someone turned the color knob all the way up?

I have noticed this on many of the 4K Ultra HD Blu Ray DVD releases this past year:

Batman (1989) - the 30th anniversary 4K Ultra HD release

Alien (1979) - the 40th anniversary 4K Ultra HD release on both the Theatrical and the Director's Cut

Apocalypse Now The Final Cut (1979) - the 40th anniversary 4K Ultra HD release

Black Hawk Down (2001) - the 4K Ultra HD release

Glory (1989) - the 30th anniversary 4K Ultra HD release

The Matrix (1999) - the 20th anniversary 4K Ultra HD release

Gremlins (1984) - the 35th anniversary 4K Ultra HD release

They all have the same issue this new 4K Ultra HD release of Scarface has.

Gremlins was the worse of them all.

They put so much color on it when you play it back on a large screen,

everything looks very washed out and very grainy.

and you will see what I am talking about.

There is an 80th anniversary 4K Ultra HD release of The Wizard Of Oz (1939)

coming out on October 29th and I bet it will have the same issue.

You buy the latest technology format of the home video release and the old release looks better....

WTF?
honestly the human eye cannot detect these subtle differences, but if you are watching on a 75” 8k television, yes you may see a difference. these re-releases are usually done for collectors and marketing for the movie companies. Need to ensure your system setup even benefits from the newer content.
