there's a couple of targets in coed I'd like to offer. At least that way, they'd serve "some" purpose..

If you want to shoot at your own targets, you'll have to find a friend with some land or travel about 100 miles. The central Texas outdoor ranges all have a lot of range rules (excessive IMHO). Red's is a good outfit, but pricey.

Lone Star Gun Range in Lockhart has a $65, 1 year membership and there's no fee to use the range if you're a member (outdoor range). I don't rent since I have my own guns, so I don't pay attention to those. I know they won't allow you to shoot things like bottles (specified in their rules) but I'm not sure about watermelons. It is outdoor, so they'd be much more likely to allow it than any indoor ranges.

Paintball if you want to rock hard, laser tag for the delicate creatures who like air conditioning and carpeting and so on.

I have a buddy out in Spicewood to shoot with; used up most of a case of Dragon's Breath on the 4th.

Good thread. I've been wondering the exact same thing. I like Red's for punching holes in paper, but I don't know where to go to blow shit up. From what I've heard most of the ranges have restrictions. I've heard that Austin Rifle Club has a plinking range, but I'm not a member so I don't know the details. I also seem to recall that the guy at Weber's in Temple said that they allow plinking at their range in Troy, but that's pretty far away and the website doesn't seem to mention it.
I'd recommend you find an outdoor range - the muzzle blasts echoing around in an indoor range will make you deaf. Some guys I work with went to one recently and a lady had a pink AR-15 blazing away indoors. They were dumb enough to stay.

If you find a place to shoot watermelons, I recommend a 12-gauge with 3" double-ought buckshot. It will vaporize a big watermelon. You'd be surprised at how tough a big pumpkin is.

I shoot at Eagle peak. Good outdoor range out 1431 near JonesTown. I shot the pistol range for a while (paper) but hen spent about an hour shooting clay bird on the shotgun range. Good fun

There seems to be some interest. Perhaps someone needs to organize a monthly outing to a range. I am a member at most of the ranges/clubs in town and would be glad to help.
