Dollar Shave Club - opinions?

I am one of those guys who is guilty of buying the Gillette Fusion razors. I even got the fancy steel vibrating handles from the Art Of Shaving at the mall.

The blades are expensive and I don't think the shaves are noticeably better to justify the extra cost. Slightly better, but not a lot better.

Gillette patents every stupid little minor variation in order to keep the price high and avoid competition.

A lot of these patents involve nothing more than the shape of the attachment mechanism at the end of the handle. Since only they can make the attachment mechanism, no one can make compatible razors and undersell them. They make their $$$ on the razors, not really the handles.

They will no doubt do it again with their next generation 7 blade razor with some pointlessly modified attachment mechanism.

If we had a better a Patent Office, their patents would get rejected. But

So, this website caught my attention:

https://www.dollarshaveclub.com/

The video of the first page is pretty damn funny and makes a lot of good points.

Any opinions regarding good, but inexpensive, razors?

Also,

http://www.harrys.com/

both are offering good and much less expensive alternatives to Gillette.

I agree. I dont shave my beard. I only trim and edge it. If I shaved it I would lose my superpowers lol

I was a member of DSC for about three months. I quit because the razor blades just didn't seem to be near as sharp as my trusty Fusion. I agree that they rape you on Fusion blade prices but I could tell a big difference in sharpness of blades. By the way I was getting the supposed best blade from DSC.

I wish Harry's blades could be slightly modded to fit my Fusion handle. I'd try them then

I hate buying new handles that are proprietary. Harry"s handle LOL is $10-20.The Fusion was left behind by a wanna be insignificant other (w2bisO) and a full pack of refills or I would have never tried it.

I just bought this. Thanks for this thread....

i've been using the dollar shave club for almost two years now and love it, even though the blades worth getting aren't their bottom-line $1 blades. i don't shave enough to even dull a blade by the time i get another one, so they just pile up. but yeah, i have no complaints, and it sure beats paying 20 bucks for a small pack of mach 5 blades.

I'll let you know how my $1 pro-glides work out for me. 5 blades and a handle shipped to my door$6

But I do buy fewer of them nowadays, since discovering a very simple product sold by this company:

Although I've never tried their "preshave," RazorGuard's storage system works as claimed, in my opinion.

Aside from the obvious lubricating effect, the basic idea is that it retards corrosion and oxidation, which seems to quickly destroy a blade's edge.

And in addition to saving money on cartridges, it seems to me that the quality of the shave is better throughout the life cycle of the blades.

I heard a talk show guy down in SA say to soak your blades in baby oil. Never did try it, but it does sound logical in slowing down corrosion.
