Why Do A Majority of White Republicans Hate The Government

Sistine Chapel's Avatar
Serious question. I just cant figure this out. They hate and rail against the government for no legit reason. In fact black people and other minorities have been the only groups oppressed by the government and had secret experiments performed on them and had their intellectual property rights stolen and credited to white men. Seems to me that white Republicans have no reason to complain in light of these facts...so just what is your beef?

I'm not a Republican any more, I'm more of a Libertarian. And I have no complaints about my state and local governments. But some of my beefs about federal government are

1. They make me spend a ridiculous amount of time complying with laws and regulations, maybe 15% of my working hours.

2. They spend a lot of my money on stupid things. A war in Iraq for example. And bridges to nowhere.

3. They spend money inefficiently. If they'd adopt, say, a health care system like Singapore's, they could provide universal health care for less than they're spending on Medicare and Medicaid.

4. Not counting social security and Medicare, which I view as pension and health insurance, they take 35% of everything I make. The benefits I get from how the government spends my federal income taxes are minimal.

5. Some of the arrogant, sanctimonious politicians that run the government demonize people like me.

6. This may actually apply to state government, but I don't like being a part of a system that kills people, capital punishment and the like, and locks them up interminably without good cause.

@ winne dixxie... I asked a legit question. Do attempt to bury your head in the sand and run and hide. Why do you hate the government? Could it be you truly dont know why and you're just spouting a line you think sounds cool. As I suspected yall have no basis for 99% of the stuff you believe

But on the flip side, why do a majority of any Democrats want to try and remake the government we currently have(as bloated as it already is) into being something different than what the founders envisioned? Also a serious question.

I'm not a Republican any more, Best positive life changing decision you could have made. I'm more of a Libertarian. And I have no complaints about my state and local governments. But some of my beefs about federal government are

1. They make me spend a ridiculous amount of time complying with laws and regulations, maybe 15% of my working hours. While a cold eyes review of regulations is in order don't forget that they are absolutely necessary. If left unchecked Corporations would leave our environments toxic and unlivable because greed is what drives everyone. Don't forget government is by the people and for the people. Corporations are a check on people since they mostly employ....People (voters) are a check on government, while government is a check on Corporations. Without government oversight Corporations would literally be paying people .5 cents an hour. So regulations on many aspects of life are unfortunately needed to a great degree.

2. They spend a lot of my money on stupid things. A war in Iraq for example. And bridges to nowhere. - Wars are typically Republican costs. Billions a year are automatically given to other countries that simply don't need it. Take Israel for example. Fine give them 3 billion a year for the past 50 yrs but don't try to tell me it's not welfare and dont tell me we need a wall with Mexico when we give away billions a year to other Sovereign Nations that clearly don't need it. It's socialism and it's welfare.

3. They spend money inefficiently. If they'd adopt, say, a health care system like Singapore's, they could provide universal health care for less than they're spending on Medicare and Medicaid. I don't know much about Singapore I will need to research that.

4. Not counting social security and Medicare, which I view as pension and health insurance, they take 35% of everything I make. The benefits I get from how the government spends my federal income taxes are minimal. Again I don't disagree on tax reform it just has to be better balance than a blanket cut for the wealthy.

5. Some of the arrogant, sanctimonious politicians that run the government demonize people like me. I think democrats try to be fair. What I don't like is how republicans use and manipulate their gullible base. Ted Cruz is a smart guy he knows better than to do the stuff he does to cater to the racists that make up his base.

6. This may actually apply to state government, but I don't like being a part of a system that kills people, capital punishment and the like, and locks them up interminably without good cause. I'm all for capital punishment if done under the careful and rigorous testing of DNA. I grew up around killers and cold blooded murderers and from personal day to day interaction with these folks I can say they're are some people that should not be in free society. They have zero regards for life and it doesn't matter what color you are. I have people I grew up with that are now on death row and I even have family members that are as well. They did those crimes is all I will say. However, for those that can be rehabilitated I do think redemption is in order and a pipeline to integrate back into society should be developed. My attitude is I have made a good life for myself in spite of the Federal Government.

I don’t hate the Federal Government. I have no love for the people in it. When I see slugs like Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, Maxine Waters, and the rest of their ilk, I wonder why we can’t do better.

On Item 4, I'd argue that the problem is not that the wealthy aren't taxed enough. We have the most progressive tax system among developed countries. The problem is in the way we spend the money. The federal government should be much more efficient. And spend less on things like defense and more on things like help for poor single mothers and children.

You may be a bit naive about Democratic politicians. With respect to point 2, many Democrats, like Hillary Clinton, are supporters of wars and the military industrial complex. About point 5, I'd argue Democrats are worse than Republicans, in terms of how they scapegoat people for political purposes. Yes, there are exceptions like Donald Trump. But there's a long list of partisan Democrats who make Republicans out to be evil - Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Harry Reid, George Mitchell (until he left politics and then became quite reasonable) for example. Republicans overall aren't as bad.

On Item 1, I don't want to go into detail as to my personal situation, but promise that the paperwork I have to do on account of government is way more time intensive and complicated than it needs to be. The regulations and forms were written by attorneys, seemingly mainly for the purpose of creating more work for attorneys and accountants. It's a legitimate reason for me personally to dislike the federal government.

Sistine Chapel, You're obviously smart, and my guess is you're pretty successful too. You grew up in a very difficult environment. Why and how were you able to get to where you are now?
