Judge rejects pimping charges against escort services site

SACRAMENTO, Calif. • A California judge has rejected pimping charges against the operators of a major international website advertising escort services that the state attorney general has called the "world's top online brothel."
Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Michael Bowman cites free speech laws in upholding the right of Backpage.com and its operators to publish.
Bowman's action Friday makes final a previous tentative ruling.

how is this good news? what does it matter? backpage is full of scammers and trouble. yeah maybe 10% of the females on there are good but i would never use that place without verifying them on other sites first.

If BP disappeared it wouldn't be that big a loss.

You're missing the bigger picture. If Backpage had been taken down legally-- that opens the door to take everyone down. Its along the lines of... I didn't say anything when they came for _________, but then they came for me.

There are good people and there are scammers on every site. BP doesn't hold the corner market on shady chicks.
Grace is right. If BP went down it would set legal precedent that all ads for "illegal" services were pimping. If I make a post saying "provider X is the best GFE provider," they could go after me for pimping. It would annihilation the whole online hobby market.

Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris announced new criminal charges Friday against the operators of classified ad website Backpage.com, accusing them of laundering earnings from escorts as well as pimping children and adult women on their websites.

The charges come two weeks after a Sacramento judge threw out pimping charges against the same three men, ruling that websites such as Backpage.com — which Harris had condemned as the “world’s top online brothel” — are protected from lawsuits when they publish speech posted by other people.

If LE can take down Backpage, they can take down this site too. Protect the Constitution; down with fascism - both the religious-right and the left-wing feminazis.
