I think that we all understand that the internal combustion engine was a great invention that really moved humankind forward. At first when there were a few hundred and then a few thousand, not a big deal.
Now, with millions, I guess billions of them currently running 24 hours a day and emitting heat, vapor trails, exhaust fumes, carbon monoxide and whatever else this is possibly/definitely going to have some effect on the planet.
This problem will eventually solve itself but perhaps not to the benefit of human beings.
