comments from the providers...preferably

this article just appeared on the CNN website. I'm love to have comments from just the providers.

I can only speak for myself. I made a very educated choice all on my own to come into the hobby. Yes there were factors that pushed me one way over another, But I still made the choice. This life is not for all and not forever. Will it leave its mark on us, yes, but along with some good memories as well. And yes there are many girls that have not made the choice on their own and are not happy here, just as there is good there is bad in most things in this world. You would hope that the LE would focus on those areas where the young and exploited are trapped, and go after those that prey on them.

I have a real hard time believing the stats as presented, and as an ex-journalist myself, I can say that the media will spin a story to best suit the agenda at the time.

I just get mad every time I see an article like this, because I feel that it doesn't speak for the majority of sex workers. Where are they getting their info? Perhaps they are talking to streetwalkers, but I bet the more elite ladies say nary a word. That darned discretion thing, ya know. Slants the numbers if they are just polling the "pimped culture." Wonder how many ECCIE providers the reporters talked to?

I am no more a victim than a woman in ANY profession. I have my good days and bad, there are drawbacks, there are highs. Like Athena, I made an informed choice, after doing a lot of my own research to separate myth from reality. I will admit that I'm too spoiled by the freedom of this industry to go back to a "regular" job.

Legalizing and licensing prostitution would increase tax revenue and screen out some of the abuse and trafficking. At this point, arresting underage hookers works about as effectively as raising the drinking age to 21 eliminated teen drinking. Yep.

Sure girls but remember there is an endless line of people who know better how to run your life than you do.

I don't think most are sex slaves at all. Some are dumb and this is the only thing they could do to make money but that ain't a slave. If they want to do something about the sex slaves they should hit up them AMP spots. That's the place they will find some chicks brought over just for sex. Some of the Latina agency shit falls right along in there but not as much. As far as pimps go, if you're dumb enough to give your money to a pimp you deserve it. Ain't no need for a pimp just as no need to be a streetwalker, get with the times people.

Instead of listening to some dude and hitting the streets, I opted for college as a way out, because I knew I had potential beyond my physicality (thanks to my mother). This industry is a double sided coin.

While the revisions to the Canadian laws do help ladies who have come into this industry freely, there ARE girls out there who are being coerced to leave their homes for the promise of a better life (lest we forget the Sophie Simone incident). If the police can't conduct stings on women they believe are under aged or coerced without being cited for harassment, there is no end to this for them. And while some ladies have evolved to be happy/content with their decision to remain in the industry for extended period, I believe more often than not that some women got their start through coercion. Or desperation. Neither a good reason.

The answer to this starts at home.

I think there's a dichotomy between the abused, trafficked girls who are forced to work by "management" vs independents who choose to go into the business due to the money they can earn.

I'm not saying it's easy money. (I've seen some of you SOBs.) I'm not saying the decision to go into the business isn't often influenced by tough life situations.

But the reality of the business is that it's probably one of the quickest ways for a woman to earn a middle-class income without specialized skills or education.
I stumbled into it for wanting to earn $200 more a week and live a bit more comfortable. Just a little add on to my normal job. I was dumb and had no idea about what I could really earn. So I stumbled into it on my own, and here I still am. I try to be empathetic to those who get cohersed, or addicted and this basically becomes their own torturous life, but for some of us with our head on straight its sexy, fun, and we use it to afford a lifestyle without a 9-5. I don't know what the stats really are, I have seen some dumb girls out with their pimps (its obvious), but its none of my business. I have my own life to live, and live exactly how I choose!
