Austin's new cell phone and digital device law effective January 1st.

https://www.municode.com/library/tx/...?nodeId=671048

Adopted 8/28/14

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 12-1-34 TO PROHIBIT THE USE OF PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICES WHILE OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE OR BICYCLE, AND CREATING AN OFFENSE

"In this section: portable electronic device means a hand-held mobile telephone, personal digital assistant, MP3 or other hand-held music player, electronic reading device, laptop computer, pager, broadband personal communication device, global positioning or navigation system, electronic game device, or portable computing device."

"An operator of a motor vehicle may not use a portable electronic device [ while the vehicle is in motion."

Some may already know. Some may not.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know this and plan on visiting Austin soon.

They will sue and it will become another worthless ticket much like Austin's red light cameras.

Right
Catch me if you can.
How the hell are they going to catch you using a Bluetooth connection?
A lot of states already have this law and I have never complied and never will.
Ignore it but don't be a dumbass and hold the phone on your ear while driving .

How is talking on the phone more distracting than talking to a rider in the vehicle?
