Give Me Some Backpage Insight..Marketing Practices

DangedDragon's Avatar
I'm curious about something.

I post ads in Backpage in other categories, like Computer Services, Business Services, Business Opps, etc...

In those areas I can add links to my website and even include clickable images that link to my website.

I don't see anyone doing that in their escort ads. Is there a reason you avoid sending people to your website or a profile listing?

From my pure "marketing guy" thinking, I'd want to get them off of Backpage as fast as possible so they are focused on "me" not on "everyone".

Then I'd be trying to capture an email address so I can continue marketing to them, have a membership area on my site, a wishlist, and maybe link to a couple of affiliate offers for the "just lookin' around" crowd.

But again...I'm thinking like an internet marketer, not a provider.

Those are the concepts I work with people in other service industries on, and it works for them, so just curious to learn more about your marketing strategies and what is working for you.

When I advertise on backpage I always refer them with a link to my website because i never put any prices in my BP ads

Monica, Is that the website in your signature line? If so, I keep seeing that site "escortwebsite.com" for everyone as an expired domain and not working.

Trust me, if I was allowed to post a link to my site on my BP ad I certainly would. Backpage used to let us post links to our websites in our escort ads but they changed their policy a couple of years ago. The links are usually automatically censored out especially if the link contains the word 'escort' in it, which is completely ridiculous to me because I am posting an escort ad in their escort section. I've seen a few that are still allowed links on their ad but not many. When I contacted them and asked about that I was told 'only a few trusted posters' were still allowed to. When I asked what I needed to do to be one of these select few they refused to answer me, even when I offered to pay more to do so.

Monica I'm curious how you are allowed to post a link to your escortfiles website. I use the same type of website and the link has been getting edited out for a long time.

Actually, for backpage, I have a wix website even though it's against their TOS. It's just generic. DangedDragon, thank you, I checked the site and they seem to have gone kaput. I switched it to my other website and thank you for telling me.
I put my website in and it can be posted, but as 1ThickBlond says - they block some.

Another work around is to watermark your photos with website.

Great idea Brooke - I never thought of that - you are a smart cookie

It's interesting that they are limiting you so severely (especially when you're paying to post), when I can get away with murder on my free ads in other sections.

I use HTML code, link to my site, use clickable images...as an example..

And no, don't order from that ad...that is for small service businesses and would not be a match to your biz... I'm just showing how aggressive they let me get in the other areas of their site.

I did get dinged on "community removal" for some other ads, but only 3 out of 40 ads...

Brooke, your image concept is excellent. A great way to get info relayed without tripping any filters.

If they are knocking out links that include "escort", you might try using a URL shortener that hides your real link name and see if it is allowed then.

Thank you for the URL shortener tip DD. I just tried to use it but no luck. When I edited my ad to include the new URL I was told there was a problem with my ad and I needed to contact support. I guess I personally can't post ANY links on my ads. I hate Backpage and truly wish I didn't need to use them at all. The majority of my good clients seem to find me there so I have to deal with their BS and spend a small fortune to do it every month.
