In short, Backpage and similar listings were useful tools against pimps and the underage sex trade. These articles are based on an interview with an Indianapolis vice cop and cite some interesting statistics.

Even the cops know that SESTA/FOSTA is a lousy idea, making it much harder to combat the "bad" aspects of the flesh trade. So they agree with us that the unintended effects of that law are probably worse than the problems it was supposed to combat.

Governments, and retards, often over react and then the pendulum swings. Too far one way then too far the other way. Eventually, hopefully, the pendulum will come to rest in the middle.
