A truism: if they really wanted to help you then they would do it.

The democrats (and to a less degree the GOP) go around making promises all the time if you elect them to office. Once in a while they have the power to do anything: 2009 to 2011. All this talk of minimum wage, immigration reform, the war on women, Gitmo, etc could have been taken care of very easily....but they didn't. Why? If they really want to do it and that is their guiding motivation that was the time. They didn't and here is the take away; they want to be reelected and to hold power. If they did it all when they had the chance they may not get reelected (I mean why do it when they've already covered your ass with luxury). No, this is kind of proof that it is really all about staying in power. So if they will forego their legacy to stay in power, won't they just screw you to do the same thing?

Think about it.

The irony is we want politicians who do what they say they are going to do when we elect them yet we get mad when they don't do what we tell them we want after they are in office.
We also want new people to step in and change the way things work in Washington but when it comes time to vote we cast our ballots for the establishment because they have the inside knowledge of how things work in DC.

You've got to hand it to Obama in that he has not wavered from doing the things that were at the heart of his agenda despite public opinion and polls. Health care reform, Income redistribution, and fundamental transformation.
Too bad he didn't work as hard on transparency and jobs although I really don't think he had intentions of keeping those campaign promises.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington was on TV a few nights ago. It's funny how the more things change the more they stay the same.
