Oral HIV test

There is a rapid oral HIV test out there that is FDA approved. It takes about 15 minutes and they claim 99% accuracy... it's like a lollipop... easy and quick. Here's my Q: HIV is real and it's out there... cover does not offer 100% protection ...so why not be extra safe? Before the fun begins we both take a test... and if we are both (-) we STILL WEAR THE COVER but there is no stress! What do y'all think... will ladies go for this or will I get slapped and blacklisted? TIA

What can I say.. I can live with the risks of the hobby apart from HIV. It's 15 minutes and a few bucks. The girl knows that I'm safe too and we still cover it. I know the odds are low without a test... not low enough for my risk profile.

There are activities that I quite enjoy that are totally safe.. namely massage, HJ, Russian... so I'm not QUITE ready to give the hobby up for a knitting needle just yet

If you really wanted to promote this idea, you'd provide links to *credible* information supporting the validity of this 'FDA approved' test. Without that, you're wasting your and everyone's time.

I don't see why not...you may catch some flak over it because asking a provider to take the test can give that feeling of being guilty and having to prove innocence. Other than that, its pretty straightforward but it can take around half an hour so be prepared to invest more than the $15 per test....for time.

That's why I offer to do the test too... we're both guilty until proven innocent.

I would gladly spend money for the extra 30 mins + cost of tests for the *mutual* peace of mind.

To me the problem case is the lady who won't take the test or gets pissed off because basically she "doesn't want to know" ... do you really want to be with someone who deals with risk by ignoring it? A lady who does regular checkups will take the free $ and get paid to chit chat (or more likely get a massage from me) for 30 minutes.

I think it's a win-win... but really the opinion of the providers is what I'm after.

Many individuals, whether providers or hobbiests, don't want to know whether they are infected with an STD. If someone knows they are infected with an STD, there is a moral obligation to quit providing or hobbying....or to at least inform the potential partner of the potential risk. Now....for a provider....this is an income stream. Bad physical results end the income stream if the provider is honorable....and they may not be. So....don't expect providers to begin testing at the initiation of an appointment.

Now for hobbiests, the same goes. Yet....as an hobbiest....I would want to know....so I could begin a treatment regimen. And, yes, since the hobby does not provide me a standard of living, I would halt hobbying activities immediately. I've taken the oral HIV test, twice. You're supposed to wait exactly twenty minutes for the results and supposedly, they are as accurate as a blood test.

Pretty easy breezy.

As far as doing it before an appointment, if he insisted, I guess so. But given that HIV doesn't immediately show up if you're exposed to it, it seems seems like a waste of time.

But if a man is a complete nervous nelly and wishes for me to do it and he bought the test over, sure. I'll do it for him. But why not bring a cup to pee in as well? That would provide a little bit more information for him, also.

And something to ALWAYS keep in mind - NONE of the tests cover your exposure or activities that have occurred in the last THREE months.

Technology has improved since I first started doing my testing when I was 18...back then it was if you though you had been exposed, go take the test...take it again in six months...and once more to be safe six months later.
So an entire year could go by from the first time you were exposed before it actually gets caught.

Yup ...the test (any test) won't catch a recent infection.

BUT because in general providers play safe the odds of a recent infection are MUCH lower than the odds of simply being infected.

That would be different if providers didn't play safe... then you get outbreak situations where one person gets infected and it spreads like wildfire in the community.

So IMO the test takes what are low odds to begin with and makes them damn near zero... it makes the odds even more appealing for you the provider because a client will not have as many encounters in 3 months.

But hey - he could still get you pregnant. If the guy is a dickhead and is capable of pulling something like that then I would assume you could "feel the vibe" or filter him out during your screening process.

You are correct that testing has improved... but you haven't kept up, and the window is not 3 months for all testing.
